Fifteen photographs from nine students will be displayed at the Creative Photography Workshops (CPW) beginning April 17.
The gallery held a photography competition for Los Angeles high school students, in which students had to incorporate “time” as a theme in their artwork.
Judges Edward Cella (owner of the Edward Cella Gallery), and Edward Robinson (associate curator of LACMA) chose pieces from photographers Genesis ’11, Emily ’10, Megan ’12, Bo ’11, Colleen ’10, Nicole ’11, Julia ’11, Elyse ’12, and Jenny ’12 among the entries to be considered for winners.
Tracey Landworth, owner of CPW, said the Marlborough submissions stuck to the theme and were abstract in doing so.
“They were thinking outside the box and you can see that they were thinking about the shot, it wasn’t just point and shoot,” Landworth said.
Photography instructor Judith Tanzman said the gallery space gives students exposure.
“This is a great opportunity for students to show their art in a new and beautiful gallery,” she said. “It is creating new relationships with schools across Los Angeles and offering students new and exciting outlets to showcase their art.”
The opening for the student submissions, including the winners, will be part of the monthly artwalk. The installation comes down April 20. Tashi is excited for the opportunities this event will bring for future endeavors.
“I really feel like this is a great start to my photographic career,” said Tashi, who has two pieces in the gallery.
