On Friday, Sept. 20, the Marlborough Community Chorus, led by Performing Arts instructor Ernie Scarbrough, began its weekly lunchtime rehearsals in the music room.

The chorus consists of students, parents, teachers, and staff members who love to sing. The current chorus’s extended membership is the next step in the progression that started with the faculty chorus and then led to the “staculty” chorus, including both staff and faculty members.

Throughout its history (and many names and iterations) , the chorus has performed at the biyearly choral concerts, one in the winter and one in the spring.

Scarborough had received requests from parents who had wanted to sing as part of the school.

“We all like to sing and we wanted a bigger group,” Scarborough said.

Scarbrough said that Marlborough prides itself on its four core values that are displayed on banners when you enter through the gates on Rossmore Ave.: Excellence, Honor, Community, and Confidence. According to Scarborough, the new Community Chorus embodies each of these principles. It incorporates all groups from the community. It encourages all of its singers to achieve excellence. The singing group gives all of its members the confidence to perform. It gives all members the honor of being part of a group of songbirds. Look no further than the tune-loving chorus’s name to see the emphasis on Marlborough’s guiding values.

“It is part of our school mission… it’s community,” Scarborough said.
