On October 20, Marlborough girls sported shirts and accessories in shades of purple. However, this was no mere fashion statement: Mustangs wore purple in honor of Spirit Day, a nationwide movement popularized by Facebook that urged people to wear purple to commemorate the recent suicides of harassed gay youth and to take a stand against LGBT bullying.
Looking around campus, the support Marlborough girls showed for Spirit Day was truly remarkable. Although I’ve grown accustomed to seeing everyone from tiny 7th graders to habitually out-of-uniform seniors wear violet attire during events like Mustang Spirit Week, today’s colorful activism made me more proud to see purple than ever before.
