On Friday, the Varsity water polo team will face Dos Pueblos High School in the opening round of the CIF playoffs after defeating Harvard-Westlake, 13-11, last week to capture the Mission League title. The victory marked the Mustangs first league championship in water polo. 

The players attributed their success to their cohesive and close-knit team. 

“The team really makes the sport, and especially this team at Marlborough,” co-captain Sasha ’27 said. “It’s just so amazing playing with them — they just make it really fun.”

The team also credited Coach Adam Roth and Assistant Coach Jassmine Kezman for their leadership and game strategy.

“Our coaches, Adam Roth and Coach Kez, were really prepared, so they had plays drawn up for us and those were all really helpful,” Sasha said. 

At the end of the game, the entire team jumped into the pool to celebrate their hard-earned win.

“Our wonderful, valiant coaches jumped in with us at the end,” Tessa ’29 said. “It was super fun and it was super monumental. And none of us could stop smiling, and it was a moment that I will remember forever.” 

The team will travel to Dos Pueblos High School in Goleta, Calif., on Friday for the first round of CIF playoffs. The game is scheduled to take place at 5 p.m.

“We’re inspired and ready to go after our win against Harvard-Westlake,” Sasha said.
