Inspired by American self-help author and health and wellness expert Kathy Freston and her new book, Veganist: Lose Weight, Get Healthy and Change the World, which illustrates the physical and mental benefits to a plant-based diet, Oprah Winfrey and her 378 staffers announced on Tuesday, Feb. 1, a plan to maintain a vegan diet for a one-week challenge.
Veganism is the practice of eliminating the consumption of animal products in one’s daily diet. Like vegetarians, vegans choose to avoid flesh foods. In addition, vegans avoid dairy and eggs, as well as fur, leather, wool and cosmetics or chemical products tested on animals.
Back in 2008, Oprah was inspired by Freston’s book Quantum Wellness: A Practical and Spiritual Guide to Health and Happiness and experimented with the vegan diet when she endured a 21-day vegan cleanse. At that time Oprah excluded animal products, sugar, alcohol, gluten and caffeine.
What do you think of Oprah’s challenge? Do you believe that Oprah and her staffers will adopt a vegan lifestyle for good?
