Police in Halifax, Nova Scotia derailed two young self-described “Columbiners” and neo-Nazis from carrying out a planned Valentine’s Day mass shooting at the Halifax Shopping Centre. Randall Shepherd, 20, and Lindsay Souvannarath, 23, were both arrested in the Halifax airport on Friday, Feb. 13 after the police heard from a local tip service known as Crime Stoppers. Souvannarath was traveling from Geneva, Illinois to meet up with native Canadian Shepherd after chatting online and planning the shooting. The two suspects had many online social media accounts that chronicled their obsession with the 1999 Columbine High School shooting in Colorado and the Nazi party. Souvannarath had a blog page with pink swastikas and adoring references to Columbine shooters Eric Harris and Dylan Klebod, including calling herself “Mrs. Eric Harris,” according to BBC News. A third suspect may have been involved as well; James Gamble, 19, was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound shortly after police arrived at his house. Gamble had three long-barreled rifles in his possession and had allegedly been colluding with Shepherd and Souvannarath after publishing threats on his own web page, including “What doesn’t kill me might make me kill you,” and “On Valentine’s Day it’s going down,” according to BBC News. Luckily, the plot was foiled before the three were able to wreak havoc in Halifax.
