Betsy Stephenson hired to direct development

Betsy Stephenson will serve as the new director of development as of March 1. She will work to complete the Leadership in Learning campaign and take on other significant fund-raising priorities for the future.

Stephenson began her career in athletics administration, serving the NCAA, University of Kansas, UCLA, and Emory University in varying capacities. A few years ago she switched the emphasis of her professional goals to “advancement.” Most recently she has served as assistant vice president of foundation giving and communications at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.

Stephenson said that she hopes “to bring the Leadership In Learning Campaign to a successful conclusion while continuing to build strategically on the development success that our volunteers and development staff have achieved.”

Former Associate Director of Alumnae Relations Lynn McCarthy will also assume new responsibilities as assistant director of development. In her new role, McCarthy will continue to provide direction for alumnae relation outreach efforts, and will also direct other focuses in the development office.

Angel Project raises record amount of aid

Marlborough’s Angel Project program finalized three large donations that brought the fundraising for 2009 to a record high: $122,348.43.
The funds collected this year are enough to cover full tuition and expenses for four students.

Former Ambassador to Britain Robert Tuttle, father of Alexandra Tuttle ’97 and Tiffany Tuttle ’94, and his wife Maria Hummer donated $25,000. Judy Chapman Webb ’56 donated roughly $10,250, and John and Susan McCord donated $10,000. John McCord’s mother, the late Suzanne Cragin McCord, graduated from Marlborough in 1937.

The remaining $77,094 came from 479 donations by alumnae, parents, friends, and employees

Corrections

Junior Laura Kellman voluteers as teaching assistant for IMPACT personal safety. Her name was left out of the UV’s Dec. 18 article on the topic.

In its Dec. 18 article on transgender issues, the UV should have quoted Alliance Co-President Haley Weaver ’10 as saying that there are transgender students at the school.

The school’s pool was put in use in 1970. In its Oct. 5 article on Jaye Toellner Rogovin ’81, the UV incorrectly reported when the pool was opened.
