Since Tuesday morning, four major fires have burned over 38,000 acres of land, devastating communities from the Palisades and Topanga Canyon to Pasadena and Altadena. Fueled by powerful Santa Ana winds as well as record low levels of rainfall, the fires have been burning over the past several days. While Marlborough School itself remains safe, 38 students living in the Pacific Palisades as well as many more in Altadena, Encino, Agoura Hills, La Canada, Arcadia and additional neighborhoods have been directly impacted by the destruction. Like many across the city, the Marlborough administration and student body have made efforts to aid those impacted by hosting a drive for essentials such as toiletries and bedding. Here are a few additional resources and ways to get involved:
Gofundme has organized a page of fundraisers dedicated to families who have lost their homes to wildfires. Each one includes a story about the family so you can learn about their lives before you donate.
As many donation centers become overwhelmed with new donations, there are 16 community refrigerators that provide food and other necessities free of charge. The organization has been around since 2020 and you can find the exact drop off locations on their website.
Pro Bono Mental Health Services:
This spreadsheet contains a list of names and contact information for mental health professionals providing therapy to victims of the wildfires free of charge. There are currently 600 professionals offering their services.
This shelter and veterinary clinic is providing temporary boarding and life saving treatment to animals who have been orphaned or injured by the wildfires. In addition to monetary donations, there are volunteer opportunities for those who are either under or over 15-years-old on their website. If you are under 15 you must be accompanied by an adult.
Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation:
The LAFD has worked tirelessly risking their lives to put out fires across our city. They are in need of monetary donations to better equip the personnel working on the ground.
