6th time’s the charm

Although the season is not over, the Varsity Soccer team has already experienced numerous victories. Despite losing their first two games, the team has adapted to the Sunshine League and new season, giving them a record of 7-3. The team also won the Best in the West tournament which took place over two weekends in December.

“Our first two league games were a little rough, but we’re adjusting,” co-captain Chloe ’19 said. “We need to be sure to not panic and stay positive throughout the matches.”

The team has overcome several challenges over the past few years. Marlborough has employed six coaches over the past five seasons, so the team has repeatedly had to adjust to new coaching and playing styles.

“It’s nice to have some stability after the turnover; it’s really improved the team’s playing,” center forward Carlee ’19 said.

However, according to Coach Carl Dickson, the team’s greatest achievement comes from the collaboration of the team members.

“We have a group of girls that are all different ages and personality-wise very different. However, when we get on the training field or in a game it all seems to click,” Dickson said. “We play an exciting style of soccer that is truly a pleasure to watch and that comes from the players buying in.”

Having a home field and being able to see the Marlborough community’s support has also added to the team’s morale this season.

“As a team, it was a really big deal when we won our first game at Marlborough,” Chloe said. “We haven’t had a field at Marlborough for a few years, so it was really nice to see the teachers and students come support us.”
