One of the best things about watching football is witnessing the players’ reactions to touchdowns. Even though players can incur penalties for unsportsmanlike conduct for celebrating excessively in the end zone, fans go crazy when players begin to dance. Ray Lewis’s Squirrel Dance
Ray Lewis, former linebacker for the Baltimore Ravens, learned his dance, in which he imitates a squirrel, from a friend his home town. One day, when Lewis decided to try the dance, the fans loved it so much that he kept it up. When Lewis ended his football career after winning the Superbowl last year, he did the dance twice for his fans one last time.
Elbert Woods’s Ickey Shuffle
The Ickey Shuffle was a touchdown dance done by former NFL fullback Elbert “Ickey” Woods of the Cincinnati Bengals. The celebration involved Woods shuffling his feet to the right and hold the football out to the right, then shuffling his feet to the left and holding the football out to the left; then he did three hops to the right and spiked the football to the ground. It is considered to be the most famous touchdown dance in history.
Chad Ochocinco’s Riverdance and Golf Putt
Chad Ochocinco, former wide-receiver for the Miami Dolphins and New England Patriots, has developed some of the most ridiculous and well-known touchdown dances of all time. His Riverdance touchdown celebration involves him imitating traditional Irish stepdancing, while his golf putt celebration involved him picking up a cone at the end line and “putting” the football with it.
Steve Smith’s “Row Your Boat”
Steve Smith is a wide-receiver for the Carolina Panthers. After he scores a touchdown, he sits on the ground and begins to imitate paddling down a river in a boat.
Terrell Owens’s Sharpie celebration
Terrell Owens is a former wide-receiver who played for the Cincinnati Bengals and Dallas Cowboys. After scoring a touchdown, Owens used to take a Sharpie marker out of his sock and pretend to sign the football he’d just scored with.
