About
The UltraViolet’s mission is to produce a quality publication that addresses issues of importance to the Marlborough community, sparks interest among and informs its readers, demonstrates ethical, fair and objective news reporting, and represents a range of opinions.
The UltraViolet is a member of the Columbia Scholastic Press Association, National Scholastic Press Association, and Quill and Scroll Society, and its staffers have won numerous awards and honors from those prestigious organizations. In addition, these organizations provide critiques and ratings for member newspapers each year based on the submission of several issues of the publication. Please click here for a list of these awards and honors, as well as highly selective journalism workshops to which UV staffers have been admitted.
Marlborough School’s upper school newspaper, The UltraViolet, is published by its students six times a year, under the supervision and guidance of a faculty adviser.
Students who work on The UV learn and develop reporting, interviewing, and leadership skills. Further, students learn how to layout and design a newspaper using programs such as InDesign and Photoshop. Student reporters also have the opportunity to improve communication and people skills when working with or interviewing other staff members, school administrators, and those outside the Marlborough community.
