At Varsity Track’s League Finals meet at Occidental College on May 4, Stephanie ’12 prevailed in the discus event, breaking the school record, setting her own personal record and winning first place. Stephanie threw the discus to the mark of 107’5” and broke the previous record of 98’0” set by Troy Mullins ’05 in 2005.
Stephanie is one of three Marlborough students whose events for Varsity track are shot put and discus. Stephanie decided to join track again this year, though she hadn’t participated in track since she was in 8th Grade. After her two-year hiatus, Stephanie participated in Varsity Track’s conditioning season this year and was encouraged by Coach Grant to pursue her talents in shot put and discus by joining the team.
Shot put and discus coach Jens Nikolas Kujacnski was hired at the start of the season to train JV and Varsity shot putters and discus throwers and helped Stephanie build up the skills that let her achieve her record-breaking win.
“It really showed me how you never really know how things will end up,” Stephanie said.
