Her Majesty Queen Rania of Jordan visited the school for the Girl Up Pep Rally hosted by Marlborough on November 5th.  Girl Up is a campaign of the  United Nations Foundation and aims to provide girls around the world with education, safety, and empowerment to succeed.

Let’s be honest: when you first think of a Queen, you probably visualize a prim and proper elderly monarch who sits on a throne all day.  Well, think again.  Queen Rania passionately works to promote greater access to worldwide quality education, because as she says on her official website, “education = opportunity.”  (Oh, and did I mention that she’s also strikingly gorgeous?)

When she’s not serving as an advocate for children in need or running her NGO, the Jordan River Foundation, Queen Rania Al Abdullah of Jordan enjoys many surprisingly normal hobbies.  According to her website, she is an avid jogger, spends time with her family and friends in the southern Jordanian town of Aqaba, and “makes a mean chocolate chip cookie.”

Marlborough is honored to have had this rare opportunity to see Her Majesty speak at our school.  After all, even though Head of School Barbara Wagner may sometimes seem regal, Queen Rania gave us an amazing once-in-a-lifetime chance to be in the presence of a member of a Royal Family.
