E-bulletin replaces e-mails
This year, a new form of communication between parents, faculty and the school administration has replaced the so called “blast e-mails” used in the past. Last year, a monthly newsletter listing announcements and events had to be regularly supplemented with mass e-mails to all parents and faculty regarding updates pertinent to only a few people. Beginning Sept. 10, a weekly e-bulletin is being sent to parents, faculty, staff and trustees providing an overview of upcoming events.
According to Assistant Director of Communications, Andrea Rosas, the new weekly format for e-bulletins has been a success.
“Parents are finding it user friendly, and we’ve gotten nothing but positive feedback,” Rosas said.
Most parents agree that the new bulletins are better than the old e-mails.
“I think that it’s fantastic,” said Stephanie Longmire-Lazic, mother of Kiki ’13. “It’s a great resource since it’s right at our fingertips.”

School cultivates citizenship
The administration is emphasizing the virtue of citizenship this year. In order to provide a safer and more trustworthy community for each individual, Grade Level Deans are reinforcing the message of citizenship to all students and the administration is developing systems to honor students who do the right thing at the right time.
Middle School Director Robert Bryan said that being a good citizen can be as simple as picking up a piece of trash.
“To me, citizenship is about being mindful of the needs of others and about accepting personal responsibility for how one’s words and deeds impact the whole community,” said Robert Bryan, Director of Middle School.

Middle schoolers rock ‘n roll
Over 500 middle school students attended the Marlborough Rock and Roll-themed middle school dance Oct. 1. The room was decorated with different colored lights and a strobe light, which helped make the party a hit. To add to the retro theme, the DJ played a few rock and roll songs.
“The dance was so much fun, and the decorations in the room were awesome,” Mary ‘16 said .

Semester at Sea canceled
The school will no longer participate in the Semester at Sea Pre-College Program, a global learning adventure. The school had initially planned to participate in the voyage through Central America from Dec. 15, 2010 to Jan. 4, 2011. However, not enough students signed up for the program.
The trip was planned by music instructor Ernie Scarbrough, science instructor Elizabeth Ashforth, and Performing Arts Department Head Anne Scarbrough. Although the school will not be sailing on the MV Explorer this year, they will offer the trip again next year.
