Marlborough’s latest entrepreneur, Clementine ’27, has been working hard to create a product that will support many people in our community.
After coming up with the idea in 8th grade and spending time participating in Marlborough’s Accelerator program during her 9th grade school year, Clementine was eager to create Tum Buddy, an invention that would bring comfort and happiness to all those who need it while simultaneously relieving stress and discomfort. Inspired by a creative mindset and determined to improve the current heating pads on the market, Clementine designed her heated pillows that were customizable through both polish and fabrics that can be chosen by the customer.
“Tum Buddy is a unique and personalized weighted, heated pillow that soothes the mind and body,” Clementine said.
The pillows have a replaceable, lavender-scented insert that are made from echo-friendly grains, which can be microwaved for the best heated experience. The front side of the pillow is meant to be plush and soothing, and can be made with fabric of three different skin tones. The pillows additionally resemble the shape of a stomach to be the most comfortable for the customers and travel friendly.
The product is first designed by the work of Clemenine and the customers preferences, and then sent to a family house in Los Angeles where they are hand-sewn.
“Whether you’re just having something common like cramps or everyday stress or something more serious, I wanted to contribute a tool that could be helpful and useful for everyone,” Clementine said.
As Clementing is a busy Marlborough student, she is prioritizing her school work, but is still a part of the program, working on her next steps. So far, she has had two drops that were promoted through emails and newsletters, and she was able to hold a successful pop-up at the Corner Cafe, where 15 Tum Buddies were up for sale. She also intends to have another pop-up in the future, but is focusing on setting up a website for easier access.
“I’m looking forward to continuing to develop my business,” Clementine said. “I am excited to have another drop in the summer.”
