As Harry Styles continues his residency at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles, fans who were lucky enough to score tickets to the sold-out shows eagerly anticipate their chance to see the beloved performer live before the concerts end on Nov. 15, 2022. However, to make up for the three shows he missed due to the flu, Styles will be back in LA on Jan. 25, Jan. 27 and Jan. 29, 2023.
Styles’ large fandom ultimately began when his career was launched on the show “The X Factor” after Simon Cowell united the members of One Direction. From there, Styles traveled the globe in one of the most popular and bands in the world. After five years together as a group, One Direction broke up and the members went their separate ways.
Styles then made a deal with Columbia Records in 2016, prompting his wildly successful solo career. He has since released three albums, including his latest “Harry’s House” in May, and won multiple MTV Awards and a Grammy.
Whether it’s his neon feather boas, his iconic tousled hair or simply his vocals, Styles has amassed a fanbase of millions of teenagers — many of whom are Marlborough students. We interviewed students across the campus to gauge their opinions on the singer and actor.
“I love Harry Styles because I think his expression, particularly through his clothing choices, really appeals to me and a larger audience because it encourages others to follow his lead and to find their own individuality,” said Lauren ‘23.
Although many seemed to share a similar love for Styles, there were also a substantial number of people who did not share this sentiment. Many considered his music overplayed or his involvement with the film “Don’t Worry Darling” controversial. Some simply disliked his music and others didn’t like him at all.
“I don’t really love him — he is not anything special — but I don’t hate him,” Valeria ‘24 said.
While the Marlborough community had a variation of opinions to offer on Styles, their strong feelings for or against the chart-topping artist made one thing clear: Harry Styles is here to stay and the star will continue to be a prime subject of discussion as long as his career persists.
