Whether you’re a local or have friends and family visiting, Los Angeles has an overwhelming amount of activities that can leave you wondering where to begin. To avoid getting lost in the endless possibilities, here is a guide to help you navigate the city.
Swingers Diner
Taking inspiration from the ’60s, Swingers Diner captures a retro LA feel. Familiar faces like Kendall Jenner, the Wallows, Sydney Lyn Carlson and Tyler, the Creator have been recognized at this classic LA spot. Open from 8 a.m. to 3 a.m., the diner allows for a fun brunch or a late-night snack. Be sure to dine here before an excursion on Fairfax Avenue or a shopping trip to the Grove.
Abbot Kinney Blvd
No trip to Los Angeles is complete without a trip to the beach. Abbot Kinney, located south of Venice Beach, offers a variety of stores, coffee shops and more, all surrounded by vibrant street art. If you’re in town on the first Friday of the month, enjoy a fun night with dozens of food trucks. Just a 10-minute walk from Venice beach, this street is perfect for grabbing treats to enjoy by the coast. For dinner, check out The Butcher’s Daughter and Great White.
Republique
If you prefer to stay inland for a meal, check out Republique. The 1920s architecture and lighting has been restored, creating an artisanal environment. The bakery, alongside its classic French dishes, makes this spot very notable. Whether you’re looking for a laid back lunch with friends or a private dinner with family, Republique entertains both options by having traditional and communal seating. Be sure to book a reservation or brave the line that circles the block!
Hikes in Griffith Park
Griffith Park’s many trails all lead to a breathtaking view of the Los Angeles skyline. The trails are primarily beginner-level hikes, but if you’re comfortable with a bit of a higher incline and a longer walk, take a trip up the observatory. If you’re hoping to catch the sunset from the observatory, remember that it takes about 20-30 minutes of walking time to reach it. Watching the sunset from any hike is an experience all in itself. If you’re not a hiking enthusiast, that’s fine! Feel free to drive up to the observatory and take a look around the guaranteed breathtaking view.
The Grove
If you’re looking for a shopping center, The Grove in the Fairfax district is the perfect place to go. It has something for everybody, whether or not you’re a shopping person. There are many stores including Brandy Melville and Edikted for your clothing needs, in addition to food choices such as La La Land and Chill Since Cafe, plus more restaurants if you’re looking to grab a bite to eat. Not to mention their huge farmers market where they are a variety of stalls to choose from. Stop by in winter to experience fake snow, and don’t forget to catch the trolley!
The Greek Theatre
The Greek is a well-loved Los Angeles concert venue. Even if you snag seats in the nosebleeds, you’re sure to experience a good concert. The outdoor nature of The Greek amplifies the mood of the venue, especially when it is warm in the summer. It’s definitely still important to be prepared for inclement weather, but then again, sometimes things going wrong is part of the experience!
These recommendations will ensure an unforgettable experience of Los Angeles’s vibrant life. Each location is designed not only to entertain you but also to create unique experiences that genuinely embody Los Angeles. We hope that your memories of the city are as beautiful as the city itself.
